Real Wedding Inspiration - Emma & David
How did you both meet?
We met online nearly 11 years ago now, we chatted for a while and realised how much we had in common. After our first date there was no going back, we had great fun and felt so natural together.
What’s the story behind your engagement?
We got engaged at St Pauls Cathedral on my Birthday. Dave chose St Pauls because it is in my favourite film, Mary Poppins. We went inside and walked around for a while, then climbed the stairs up to the whispering gallery where you can talk to each other through the walls from the opposite side of the room. We went to opposite ends of the gallery and Dave said to me through the wall to look in my handbag. He had put a birthday present in there for me and told me to open it. It was a Links of London charm of an engagement ring. As I walked back to meet him he was down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I don’t think he had planned it but as I said yes the organs started playing. It was a very special moment.
Why did you choose The Kedleston?
We had looked at a few venues and they all felt so similar and uninspired, all white rooms with round white tables and chair covers. As soon as we walked into The Kedleston we knew it was perfect for us. It felt a nice relaxed atmosphere and the interior was stunning, exactly our taste. We loved that it didn’t feel like a package, everything could be tailored to suit us.
How did you feel the planning up to your day went?
The planning was a breeze, everything went smoothly and was organised well in advance of the day. Robyn was so helpful, every little question we had she answered and helped us with. There was no last minute stress or running around which meant we could focus on actually getting married rather than the details.
How do you feel the day itself went? (food, service & atmosphere)
The day went so well, we had so many compliments on the food and the venue itself. The staff were incredible, we had an unfortunate event on the day which led to a delay in a couple of guests sitting down for their meals but The Kedleston simply looked after them and made sure they had their food when they arrived.
There were so many special touches that surprised us on the day such as our beautiful personalised knife and cake slice, we never expected these but they are lovely keepsake of the day.
What was the best moment of the day?
Apart from the actual getting married part one of the parts of the day I remember took my breath away was walking into the room for the first time and seeing it all set up. It looked absolutely stunning and certainly made an impact on our guests too.
Do you have any advice for couples planning their wedding?
Don’t worry about the small stuff, things might happen that are out of your control but at the end of the day you will be married and that’s all that matters.
