No, this isn’t a styled shoot and these aren’t paid models… our wedding from back in September really was just that creative.
I’d like to start out by saying a massive congratulation’s to the lovely Mark and Maria. They came to The Kedleston Country House in search for a wedding venue that would snugly fit their small intimate wedding ceremony of just 15 people close to home in Derbyshire. Their stunning wedding was a pintresters dream come true, full of hanging flowers, hessian and geometric gold candle holders. Take a peek through some of the amazing photos from Ed Godden. I asked the happy couple a few questions about their big day, here’s what Maria & Mark said:-
How did you both meet?
Maria’s Mum fancied herself as a matchmaker. Six years, two children and a wedding later we should probably thank her for interfering!
What’s the story behind your engagement?
Mark had a beautiful ring made to his own design and placed it at the top of the Christmas tree last year.
Why did you choose The Kedleston?
We often passed The Kedleston on trips to the nearby antiques fair, and always said ‘that place could be amazing’. It was such a shame to see it boarded up and forgotten for so long. After scouring the Internet for weddings venues in the area we were becoming very disheartened by the typical impersonal ‘packages’ on offer, and found many weren’t prepared to host small intimate weddings like the one we hoped for. We Googled The Kedleston on the off chance and knew immediately it fit the criteria; cosy and country. Running a village butchers and deli, we had to make sure the food tasted as good as the venue looked, so we visited for a stealthy Sunday dinner and decided there and then it was definitely the one for us.
How did you feel the planning up to your day went?A self confessed control freak, I was keen to plan the tiniest details, even down to the teaspoons, I needn’t have worried as nothing was overlooked. All of our questions (even the ridiculous ones) were answered quickly and thoroughly.
How do you feel the day itself went? (food, service & atmosphere)
The food was brilliant. the chef was very accommodating, happy to include a personalised menu of our personal favourites alongside their own seasonal menus.
What was the best moment of the day?
The best moment of the day for Maria was walking into the room for the ceremony, seeing Mark and all of our family. After 8 months of planning it was such a good feeling to see our hard work come into fruition. I was flooded with relief and all of the nerves disappeared.
The best moment of the day for Mark was the wedding breakfast, closely followed by his first pint, as expected!
Any advice for couples planning their wedding?Pinterest is the bride’s bible, it’s the best source of inspiration and an easy way to share your vision with your suppliers.
Suppliers who helped out?
We particularly liked working with Nat at Yummy Little Cakes, and Sophie of Sophie’s Flower Company. They were both in perfect harmony with our styling ideas, creating a strong, cohesive look to the day.
Pom Pom Studio also went the extra mile, rising to the challenge of creating fern filled balloons. They looked fantastic.
Alex and Carla at Arena Hair, Hucknall gave us their full attention during appointments and hair trials and kindly offered their own time to help us with bridal hair preparations in the busy week prior to the wedding.
Ed Godden, genius, caught Mark smiling on more than one occasion, which has never before happened on camera… without looking like an absolute psychopath at least.
Here’s a few words from the man behind the camera;
“Loved loved LOVED shooting this wedding! With such an intimate ceremony and meal in the daytime, compared to the huge party these guys had in the evening, it felt like I had shot two different weddings in the same venue, on the same day! With the stunning setting of The Kedleston, you can’t really go wrong as a photographer. Beautiful rooms, and lovely grounds make this a gorgeous venue to shoot at. Mark and Maria were totally chilled out and relaxed in front of the camera, and I loved taking them off for a short walk to the corn fields out the back. It looked like we had gone away for ages to do the portraits, but in actual fact we were only away from the party for 15 minutes.”
